On Friday 16 July, 2021, the Archdiocesan Women’s Taskforce invites you to attend our inaugural Mary Magdalene Dinner at 6:30pm @ the Southern Cross Club.
This event is an initiative of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Women’s Taskforce and will be the first in a series of such events, all aimed at enhancing and celebrating the contributions that women make to our Church.
In 2016 Pope Francis decreed (through the Congregation of Divine Worship) that Mary Magdalene’s liturgical memorial be elevated to a ‘feast’, like that of the other apostles, and that she should be referred to as “Apostle to the apostles”.
Our speaker is Sr Margaret Beirne RSC, a scripture scholar who is a senior lecturer in biblical studies at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College.
After 30 years of teaching and leadership in secondary education, including principalship at St Vincent’s in Potts Point, Sr Margaret went to the École Biblique in Jerusalem. Her PhD dissertation was on the Gospel of John which features a chapter on Mary Magdalene.
All are welcome to attend this dinner which is $65 a head, and it will take place on Friday 16 July 2021 at 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
Those with dietary needs, requiring special access or group bookings are asked to please email the organisers on womenstaskforceACG@gmail.com.
